Select this if you are installing to a dedicated server machine that will manage the DB only and will NOT be used as a workstation or to create a second database for your practice - for a different branch or a different customer base.  In fact, even in the case of a dedicated server machine, it is a good idea to install both Client and Server so that this machine could be accessed remotely via a RD connection and the software run on it from another (even Apple or Android) device, if needed.

  • Select Custom Installation > Server Install and ensure that Client Install is unchecked.
  • Select Database Name and Database Directory (see 1.1.4.3 above for naming and location of DB)
  • Click Next, Next etc. then Finish.
  • There will be NO Desktop Icon as there is no application you need to run here (Access to the DBManager program is from the Start Menu if needed).

If you need to access this database from a remote workstation, you will need to ensure that Port 3050 is open on the server for bi-directional traffic Win7 http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/open-a-port-in-windows-7s-firewall/
